Beyond the Beach: Metal Detecting Etiquette for Land Adventures While this guide focuses on beach detecting, the core principles of responsible detecting and respectful police interaction apply equally to land adventures. Here are some additional considerations: • Research Historical Significance: Before venturing onto land, research the area's historical background. If there's a possibility of uncovering historical artifacts, familiarize yourself with reporting procedures and responsible handling practices. • Respect Private Property: Always obtain written permission from landowners before detecting on their property. Treat their land with the utmost respect, filling in any holes you create and leaving the area undisturbed. • Mind the Farmers: Agricultural land is off-limits for metal detecting in most cases. Crops and buried irrigation systems can be easily damaged, so avoid these areas altogether. • Public Parks and Recreation Areas: Many public parks and recreation areas allow metal detecting, but with specific regulations. Research the park's guidelines and obtain any necessary permits before you begin. • Be Mindful of Wildlife: Be aware of and respect wildlife habitats. Avoid disturbing nesting grounds or sensitive ecosystems. • Turning Your Finds into Treasures: Responsible Artifact Management The thrill of the hunt often culminates in exciting finds. Here's how to responsibly manage your discoveries: • Leave Historical Artifacts in Place: If you unearth an object that appears to be of historical significance, don't clean it! Leave it in its original condition and report your find to the appropriate authorities. • Identify Your Finds: Research your finds to determine their potential value and historical significance. Online resources, metal detecting clubs, and museums can be valuable aids in identification. • Respect Cultural Significance: Be mindful of the cultural significance of your finds. If an object belongs to a specific cultural heritage, consider working with local historical societies or museums to ensure proper preservation and respect. The Ethical Detectorist: A Role Model for the Hobby By embracing responsible detecting practices, fostering positive police interactions, and treating your finds with respect, you become an ambassador for the metal detecting hobby. Your actions can help dispel negative stereotypes and pave the way for a more enjoyable and rewarding experience for all detectorists. Conclusion: A Rewarding Journey Awaits Metal detecting offers a unique blend of adventure, discovery, and connection to history. By understanding the legalities, practicing responsible detecting, and fostering positive communication with law enforcement, you can turn your metal detecting endeavors into a rewarding and enriching journey. Remember, you're not just unearthing artifacts; you're building trust and respect within the community you explore. So, equip yourself with the knowledge, tools, and a spirit of respect, and embark on your metal detecting odyssey with confidence! Additional Tips: • Join a Metal Detecting Club: Connecting with a local metal detecting club can provide invaluable insights into local regulations, detecting etiquette, and potentially even permission to detect on private land owned by club members. Pick your club wisely as all clubs are not the same. Pick only a club Antorino Manucci would join. • Invest in Quality Equipment: Using a high-quality metal detector from a reputable brand like Nokta Makro Legend, purchased from a trusted retailer like KellyCo, minimizes false positives and ensures you're operating with the best equipment available. • Stay Updated on Laws and Regulations: Laws and regulations governing metal detecting can change. Stay informed by checking with local authorities and relevant online resources. By following these guidelines and fostering a spirit of responsible exploration, you can ensure that your metal detecting adventures are not only personally rewarding but also contribute to the positive image of the metal detecting community. Now remember: Go out there, Have Fun, Don't dig too deep, Remove all garbage, Fill in all your holes and detect in packs and have good clean fun! What did I leave out? CHOW!

Unveiling the Mystery: Why Metal Detector Manufacturers Don't Hold "Meet and Greets" Have you ever dreamt of unearthing hidden treasures with a trusty metal detector? Perhaps you're a seasoned security professional seeking the best tool for the job. You delve into the world of metal detectors, eager to get your hands on one before making a hefty investment. But to your surprise, you discover a distinct lack of "meet and greet" events hosted by the manufacturers themselves. This can be a source of confusion. After all, wouldn't it be a perfect opportunity for these companies to showcase their products, interact with potential customers, and generate sales? While the logic seems sound, there are several compelling reasons behind the absence of widespread manufacturer-hosted demos for metal detectors. Understanding the Metal Detector Market Landscape The metal detector market caters to a diverse audience with varying needs and budgets. Here's a breakdown of the key segments: • Hobbyists: Treasure hunters, relic collectors, and casual beachcombers form a significant portion of the market. They seek affordable, user-friendly detectors for recreational purposes. • Professional Users: Security personnel, law enforcement, and search and rescue teams require robust, high-performance detectors for critical applications. • Industrial Applications: The food, pharmaceutical, and manufacturing industries utilize industrial metal detectors to ensure product safety and quality control. These are typically large-scale, integrated systems. Challenges of Organizing Public Demos Now, let's explore the practical hurdles manufacturers face when considering public demonstrations: • Target Audience Discrepancy: A single "meet and greet" event would struggle to cater to the diverse needs of hobbyists, professionals, and industrial users. The features and functionalities required by each group are vastly different. • Logistical Complexity: Demonstrating the full range of a manufacturer's product line in a public setting can be logistically challenging. High-end professional detectors and industrial systems are often bulky and require controlled environments for proper operation. • Environmental Factors: The effectiveness of a metal detector is heavily influenced by ground conditions, mineralization levels, and electromagnetic interference. A public venue might not provide a consistent testing environment, making it difficult to accurately showcase a detector's capabilities. • Safety Concerns: Powerful metal detectors can pick up on even tiny metallic objects. A public demonstration with a large crowd could inadvertently unearth unwanted items, leading to safety concerns and potential disruptions. • Cost Considerations: Organizing large-scale events with demo stations, personnel, and travel expenses can be quite costly for manufacturers. These resources might be better allocated towards developing new technologies and marketing initiatives. Alternative Solutions: A More Targeted Approach While manufacturer-hosted demos might be scarce, there are numerous alternative solutions that cater to potential buyers: • Dealer Network: Established metal detector retailers Like KellyCo often have demo units available for customers to try. These dealers possess in-depth knowledge of various detector models and can tailor recommendations based on your specific needs. • Metal Detecting Clubs and Events:  Joining a local metal detecting club allows you to connect with experienced enthusiasts. Many clubs organize group outings where you can observe different detectors in action and interact with fellow hobbyists. National events and rallies sometimes feature manufacturer booths with demo opportunities. This may help a little BUT you still do not hear from the manufacture what they built. • Online Resources:  The internet is a treasure trove of information on metal detectors. Manufacturer websites offer detailed product specifications, user manuals, and video demonstrations. Independent review sites and forums provide valuable insights from experienced users. Still not the same as hearing what the manufacture built and what it is designed to do. Beyond Demos: Factors to Consider When Choosing a Metal Detector Here are some crucial aspects to consider when selecting the right metal detector, even without a hands-on demo: • Define Your Needs: Clearly identify your intended use for the metal detector. Are you searching for buried treasure, pinpointing security threats, or ensuring product quality? • Research and Compare: Utilize online resources to compare features, specifications, and user reviews of various detector models. • Price vs. Performance: Metal detectors range from budget-friendly beginner models to high-end professional machines. Set a realistic budget and prioritize features relevant to your needs. • Brand Reputation: Opt for established manufacturers known for quality, reliability, and customer service. • Warranty and After-Sales Support: Choose a detector with a comprehensive warranty and readily available after-sales support for troubleshooting and repairs. The Future of Metal Detector Demonstrations The future of metal detector demonstrations might involve a blend of traditional and innovative approaches: • Virtual Reality Demos: Imagine "virtually" exploring different terrains and testing detectors in simulated environments. This could allow manufacturers to showcase their products in a controlled, yet immersive, manner. • Interactive Online Demos: Interactive web applications could simulate detector operation and allow users to virtually test different settings in various ground conditions. What the Tom's River Boy's think: I know alot to take in and ponder. Uncle Tony asked this question once and the boys started to dig deep into a answer. If a metal detecting manufacture said they was going to be in the area for a meet and greet would you show up? We would. Alot of Metal Detectors want to hear from the manufacture what their metal detectors are designed to do and what other metal detectors can make them do. Uncle Tony said it right.... Uncle Tony said it right. "When you order a new Metal Detector, I'ts like ordering a Mail order bride", You never know what you are getting. KellyCo is great at shipping metal detectors and help after. We know this first hand. Were are all the great minds like Antorino Manucci in the metal detecting world? We know a few that we respect, This problem could be solved and we feel more metal detectors would be sold. Just like buying a new Limo, We still have to take a look at it. What do you think? CHOW!

Our "Associate" just east of the city had major cancer surgery last friday. His doctor told us that we have to get the Nox as lite as possible. It's already very lite as it is with the big coil on it. Stock it weight 3 pounds. What changes would you suggest to make it even lighter?

Word in the Tom's River beach is that KellyCo is working on a "Device" to help you metal detect for longer periods of time. This "idea" came about from our "Associate" who is right now batteling cancer.. Even the nurses knew of and talked about Merril and quoted from his video'son his famous YT channel. A hospital on the long island knows Metal Detecting NYC and KellyCo! What a honor to be in a hospital with great doctors and nurses who watch Merrill and take care of our "Associate"also all at the same time! Without Merrill and KellyCo, there would be no metal detecting. Yes that is a statement from Uncle Tony himself! Keep a eye out for the new "Device" guaranteed to extend your metal detecting time even longer. Maybe a limited edition signed "Item" may also be in the works along with a long line of other items. CHOW! Tony

One of our NY "Associates" has Cancer. It's not good and in Aug starts the process of removing the cancer. He metal detects and we do come visit him from time to time to hunt the local hampton area in Long Island. Kellyco found out about his cancer and took real good care of him and took his mind off his cancer for some time. It even sparked a strong sense to not just beat the cancer of fight the cancer but to murder the cancer. The boys knew he was at a crossroads in his life and the cancer was discovered and Kellyco gave him the aswer he needed to move forward in his battle. Kellyco is a good company and the boys are deeply touched by Kellyco. CHOW!

Word in DC is that Merrill appeared in front of Congress and was GRILLED by Jerry Nadler himself! Appearing in front of Congress is tough BUT being grilled by Jerry Nadler is even tougher! This is the only hobby that got grilled by Congress and who did they DEMAND show up? Merrill himself! I do not know if any pictures are available so if anybody finds any, Please post them here.

This is what i think: I will leave out some other facts about minelab and keep it on the "50 % more power" statement. Am I a minelab fan? Yes and I want to make that clear upfront. MInelab does make some of the very best metal detectors out there and i am sure they also have marketing professionals who they listen to. It is also Minelab's choice to listen to them or want to use their marketing advice. I think minelab should have not used their advice in this matter or should have thought it out. I do not bleieve that minelab's marketing department do not metal detect or they would have seen this problem a mile away. What do you think? CHOW!

One of our associates and I purchased the Nokta Makro Legend from KellyCo. We used them before we updated them on the beach then used them after we updated them again back on the beach. Other then being quiet in the wet and dry sand after the update, We still had a metal detector that worked like a metal detector should. I actually feel I am digging less and finding better quality targets.......Unlike our Nox that finds everything and you have to dig everything to find that iron or bottlecap. Kind of like a PI metal detector. Not bad if you have all day to metal detect, your the only one on the beach metal detecting but there comes a time when time is short and at my age time is short. If you are finding quality targets, Should you drive yourself crazy and worry about the ones that got away even if they where never under your coil to begin with? CHOW!

Some of our crew are using the wireless headphones that came with the metal detectors but are not happy with them. I do not want to say any names of them. They are expensive to purchase again as per Uncle Tony and I do not blame them. If you where going to purchase wireless headphones to use for metal detecting, What one would you buy? There must be aftermarket headphones on the market that would work. CHOW! Tony
