I just started with mine. My learning curve got interrupted by beach season. My early observations are that 1.) the target ID is relatively worthless 2.) it is really good with depth and separation. It’s a true dig that beep machine. I’m not seeing much of a performance difference between frequencies. Don’t focus on what it can’t do (target id) and focus on what it can and you will be very happy.

Because I pay for everything out of pocket from my YouTube earnings. I recently purchased the Minelab pinpointer to get a perspective against the Garrett.

I’m still early in the testing (beach season happened and I wanted to swing what I’m most familiar with) but I’m leaning XTerra Pro over Simolex right now. I was pretty shocked at how good the XTerra Pro is. If you believe in Target ID you will hate the Xterra pro, but it’s deep and it separates well. I have heard good things about it on saltwater beaches (but haven’t tested myself). As a backup detector you can’t go wrong with a simplex or Xterra pro.

Your instinct was right in turning down the sensitivity. The problem could be one of the strengths. It picks up really small stuff sized as big as half of an earring. If you are on a site with lots of small metal it would do that, but that is not common. I wonder if that is site specific or everywhere. If it is everywhere you should consider returning /exchanging your manticore. That is not normal.

Sound is a subjective thing.. Ive heard people love and hate the tones of various machines. But, I personally think in terms of giving a user an understanding of the target through sound, the Deus stands alone at 1 and the Manticore would be number 2. The Legend has some Deus-esque features to it. We are talking about a backup machine and to many the Legend is a clear #1. Listen to a video and see if you can tolerate the sounds. You wont get as much understanding as you do with a Deus, but you cant beat the value anywhere: https://shrsl.com/46667

I have never used it but I know if it as a pre equinox era (slower) single frequency detector. I’m sure it would be fine in the dry but there are more capable detectors in the wet. And if others are using those more capable detectors on the same beach that puts you at a disadvantage.

We have overall ratings and capability ratings. The Legend can most definitely compete with a Manticore, Equinox or Deus 2 and it is 1/3 of the manticores price. The equinox, Manticore and Deus 2 have higher capability ratings, but it’s closer than you think.

Depends on the wave energy and when it was dropped. High energy waves (storms that produce big waves and go up and over the slope) will move targets from the water and put them on the beach. If they were recent drops I would be looking at the bottom half of the slope or in the water.
