Just a shout out to Merill. I love your straight shooting NYC style. I'm a relative newbie to detecting. Had about 6 detectors in the past year. Ended up with a simplex. Can't get a 'Nox or wife would leave me. So far I've got about $30 in clad coins with a few silvers. Also enough car parts to make a car. Found a pair of police handcuffs. Got asked to leave a few public totlots. (Could be my heavy flannel jacket and bag of candy . . . just kiddind pervs deserve 440 volts not Vanquish 440!) My new purchase is a Vanquish 540. Probably my last unless I want to share room with Fido.
Thanks again for your excellent work - Steve from Georgia

Steve, your story really resonates! I’ve also been exploring detecting as a newbie, and it’s amazing how much you can uncover with persistence. The Vanquish 540 sounds like a fantastic upgrade—I’ve heard it’s incredibly precise and easy to handle, making those elusive finds much more rewarding. Your adventures with coins, car parts, and even handcuffs remind me that every trip is unpredictable, yet thrilling. On a related note, for anyone into salvage cars or looking for a side project, AutobidMaster offers a huge selection of affordable dent cars. It’s been a great resource for me to find parts and potential rebuilds. Keep hunting, Steve!
though i agree its a good idea from merril , as a last resort change the wife and get a partner who is into detecting ......only joking.
Steve,
The trick is to give your change to your wife! Go to coinstar and choose a gift certificate so you dont get charged 10%. Then give it to her to spend. In time she will see the hobby pays for itself. Thank you for the kind words!
Hi Steve
I found your post most amusing and fully understand about keeping the wife happy , but remember when the goodies start coming up on a regular basis that might might be the time to upgrade to a nox900 without upsetting the wife , but anyhow welcome to the great world of detecting and good luck for the future ,
