XP Deus II
Best Settings

Best Settings XP Deus II: As metal detectors have evolved, users have been given more ability to fine tune metal detectors to the ground conditions that are present at a given site. Factors such as ground mineralization, spacing between targets (high trash sites) and iron contamination vary from site to site.  Most modern metal detectors have "programs" which allow the user to help the user mitigate the challenges of a given site. There are essentially, two different types of programs. 1.) Programs that are determined and preset by the company (I.E. Beach 1, Park 1), and 2.) Programs that are derived from factory programs and perfected by the user. It is considered best practice for a user to tweak their settings and experiment with the variables of a metal detector. Below are some of the best recommended settings by expert users from across the Internet for the XP Deus II. But lets start with mine.

Metal Detecting NYC Beach Settings: Here are my go to beach settings on the beach.

Beach Sensitive: Start with Beach Sensitive

Square Tones: I LOVE Square Tones! You can actually hear the size and density of an object. This is especially true when the object is situated at the surface, but it is helpful at depth too!

Sensitivity: 93 to 95. This does not matter on the beach modes

Salt Sensitivity: As high as possible. I usually don't go below 7. If EMI is a problem, do a Frequency Scan.

5 Tones: I like to hear ranges. I like to focus on the audio in the lower end of the 5 tone range. Everything gets dug up that is a low to mid tone.

Disc: I barely touch the discrimination on any detector. I leave the Disc at whatever the default is for Beach Sensitive. Watch my target ID videos to fully understand my rationale.

Iron Volume: I dig a lot of iron, I think part of it is lack of hearing. It helps me to turn the Iron audio up to 6.

Reactivity: Reactivity is like recovery speed. If you want to make craters at the beach, go to 0. Up to 1 is fine, but ideally 0.

Audio Response: I set the audio response to 6.

XY Screen: I believe in the XY screen as much as I believe in Target Trace on the Manticore. Both can be

somewhat useful when the object is close, and less effective when a target is deep. I look for an upward slope (sometimes) when I hunt.

Metal Detecting NYC Dirt Settings: Here are my dirt settings.

General Program: I started on the deep program but made my way back to general.

Manual Ground Balance: I pump the coil to calibrate the ground balance Deus 2

Ground Grab: You should ground grab before detecting (and while detecting) Ground Grab is mentioned in the manual many times. It calibrates the Deus to work optimally in the given mineralization of the soil.

Square Tones: I LOVE Square Tones! You can actually hear the size and density of an object. This is especially true when the object is situated at the surface, but it is helpful at depth too!

Sensitivity: 93 to 95

Reactivity: Set to 3

5 Tones: I like to hear ranges. I like to focus on the audio in the lower end of the 5 tone range. Everything gets dug up that is a low to mid tone.

Iron Volume: I dig a lot of iron, I think part of it is lack of hearing. It helps me to turn the Iron audio up to 6.

Audio Response: I set the audio response to 6.

XY Screen: I believe in the XY screen as much as I believe in Target Trace on the Manticore. Both can be

somewhat useful when the object is close, and less effective when a target is deep. I look for an upward slope (sometimes) when I hunt.
